President’s Letter

A Message from our PTSA President

Dear Islander Middle School Families,

As we immerse into the busy holiday season it’s also a good time to acknowledge how thankful we are for you and our Mercer Island community.  Enrichment Grants were recently awarded to IMS teachers and staff for activities such as Artists in Residence programs to enrich the coaching of our band and orchestra students, purchasing a hominid fossil collection to enhance the 6th grade social studies unit on early man and to bring an exciting demonstration of electricity and circuits for the Environmental Science unit via the Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels program.  These grants, and more, are made possible by the Mercer Island Schools Foundation, who in turn are supported by you!

Your donations to the PTSA have provided IMS teachers with class field trips to the Science Center, a world map with decorative flags to demonstrate the country of origin and countries our students have traveled in and specialized teacher training for the IMS WEB program.  Funds raised from the IMS PTSA Legacy Brick sales have helped enhance our school community through art and design elements for our school, a poster maker machine and other needed supplies and equipment for our IMS staff.  All these enrichment and supplemental grant awards are made possible by your contributions We are sincerely grateful.

Did you know that Islander Middle School has multiple after school activities, clubs and sports for your student to participate in?  Information can be found on the Islander Middle School website under Students / Student Clubs and Activities and we have provided information on our PTSA website.  IMS offers activities such as Drama Club, Chess Club, Robotics Club, Spelling Bee and Destination Imagination to name just a few.  The IMS website also has information on IMS sports such as Volleyball, Wrestling, Cross Country and Track and Field.  In addition, students are provided announcements on these clubs and sports via the IMS Daily Bulletin which is read over the loud speaker each morning.  The IMS Daily bulletin is also available on student iPads and the IMS website.  These clubs and sports are a great way to have your child try new activities.

Enjoy the holidays with your family and friends!

Best Regards,

Suzanne Riley
